The Media talks to us every day about Muslims and issues that have an impact on them or us. We have to remember that newspapers, and to an extent television channels, tell us what we want to hear, how terrible life is and how life is going to change as a result. The problem is that they often make sweeping generaliations and simplifications (like I have just done) to make their point and don't report the reactions of everyday moderate people. Those opinions don't sell newspapers or make good TV ratings.
Try to read the news with an extra set of eyes. What would an ordinary Muslim think about the news article you have just read. They may think that the way the Muslim press report the issue is a bit over the top but are annoyed at how the UK media is reporting the issue. In the end we all feel the need to take sides! If you want to know how a Muslim friend really thinks about the issues that are put onto his or her agenda why not ask... and then listen. Find out what is being said from a cross section of the media and then talk to your friend.
